Northern New Mexico’s trout waters – specifically the San Juan River – are as pristine and diverse as the culture and topography of the Land of Enchantment. Gushing out of Navajo Dam, the San Juan's most productive trout stretches are from the dam downriver 3 plus miles to the NM Highway 173 Bridge—however, public land access is limited. The upper 3 miles are designated as Special Trout Waters, this stretch of the 140-foot-wide San Juan teems with a bounty of 15- and 20-inch rainbows. Further inland, picturesque Navajo Lake is nestled amongst the pinon and cedar. With more than 150 miles of public shoreline, the 35-mile-long, 396-foot-deep lake is a paradise for boaters and for fishermen, who will find an abundance of Northern pike, large and smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trout, channel catfish, crappie, kokanee salmon, and sunfish. Warm days, cool evenings, and breathtaking rim-rock vistas await you. Whether you need gear, guides, licenses, expertise, instruction, Zia Sporting Goods is anxious to be your guide to the splendor and solitude of this rugged and beautiful sportsman’s country.
