Welcome to the Parks' Fly Shop! Our store is located in Gardiner, Montana, within sight of the Yellowstone River and a quarter-mile from the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. All the prime water within the Park, the blue-ribbon portion of the Yellowstone River, and many great private lakes and spring creeks are located within an easy drive, making us the most centrally-located fly shop and outfitter in the region. The rivers and lakes of the Yellowstone region have been our obsessions and the guiding forces behind our business since 1953. We stock only flies & gear useful within 50 miles of our door, we designed and/or tie around half the flies we stock (including Dry Flies, Wet Flies, Nymphs, Streamers), and our guide service is a local one, focused only on Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone River system outside the park, rather than on fly fishing Montana as a whole. Parks' Fly Shop began as Merton Parks' custom fly tying business, based out of Cloquet, Minnesota in the late 1940s, so it's no surprise we stock a lot of custom and locally-produced flies, around 40% of our entire fly stock. Some of these are merely subtle variations on standard patterns, but many are local designs that are either available nowhere else or originated in the Yellowstone region. Sometimes having one of these patterns makes all the difference between fooling a fish and having it refuse your fly, because trout in our region see a lot of fake bugs and they get suspicious of those they see the most. Two of our tyers, Matt Minch and Walter Wiese, are contract fly designers for Montana Fly Company, one of the more innovative wholesale companies, while Matt, Walter, Richard Parks, and Doug Korn have all had patterns featured in books and magazines. Parks' Fly Shop has been in the guiding business since shortly after the shop opened. We have a small core staff and use only a handful of the best contract guides in the Yellowstone region, and we focus almost exclusively on the Yellowstone River, its tributaries, and the blue-ribbon waters of Yellowstone National Park. This narrow focus gives our guides unparalleled knowledge of the waters where they work.
